About Cheryl

CherylCheryl Drewes, originally from the Boston area, completed undergraduate majors in composition and music education at the University of Lowell (Massachusetts), and holds the Master of Music Degree in organ performance from New England Conservatory. She is currently Director of Music Ministries at Spanaway Lutheran Church, Spanaway, Washington. Cheryl brings creativity and diversity to her teaching through the exploration of all styles, the occasional use of other instruments with the piano, and by encouraging improvisation and composition in her students. Her students may also play the pipe organ (via a field trip) when the music is suited to the instrument. Cheryl has served on the National Council of the Organ Historical Society, is past Dean of the Portland Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and has performed organ recitals throughout the Northwest and New England. She is also founder of Jump Into Music, an emerging non-profit program bringing private music instruction to children in need. When not involved in music and church, Cheryl enjoys all manner of gardening, camping and hiking with husband Tim and son Isaac, and restoring their 1908 house.
